Contact Lens Exams at Integrity Eye Care

Contact lenses are a convenient alternative to wearing eyeglasses. Many contact lens options are available whether you would like to wear them every day, during sports, for special occasions, or another time. For many people, contacts offer flexibility and freedom that eyeglasses do not. If you are interested in wearing contact lenses, a contact lens exam at Integrity Eye Care will help you find and select lenses that fit properly and comfortably.

What Is a Contact Lens Exam?

While a comprehensive eye exam checks your overall eye health, a contact lens exam specifically evaluates your eyes for the use of contacts. Contact lens exams are typically conducted separately from a routine eye exam, as your doctor will perform special tests to determine your contact lens prescription and proper fit.

One size does not fit all when it comes to contact lenses. At your contact lens examination at our office in Murfreesboro, your doctor will measure the curvature of your cornea (the front surface of your eye). This measurement will help them select the best type and size of contact for you. They may also check your pupil or iris size and observe your tear quality with a tear film evaluation to ensure you have sufficient tears to keep the contact lenses moist and comfortable. If you have weak tear film, your doctor may recommend certain types of lenses to help retain optimal moisture in your eyes.

Your Contact Lens Prescription

Contact lens prescriptions are very different than eyeglass prescriptions, which is why it is important to get a contact lens exam. Based on the results of your examination, we will provide a contact lens prescription that is right for your eyes and will meet the demands of your day-to-day life.

A wide variety of contact lenses are available. Your doctor may give you several types to try to find one that’s the most comfortable and provides the clearest, most enjoyable vision experience.

After Your Contact Lens Exam

Following your exam, you may find that the contacts you originally thought were comfortable are not working out the way you hoped. This is common and a normal part of the process when it comes to wearing contact lenses. Your doctor may recommend a follow-up exam to ensure that your lenses are fitting properly and your eyes are adjusting as they should be. At this appointment, any concerns you have can be addressed and resolved through strategies such as trying different lenses, changing your cleansing solution, or adjusting your wearing schedule.
